Educationally, ICT has limited use in my school. Teachers, although personally competent in the use of some tools/programmes, have not reached the stage of fully integrating ICTs into the classroom. It is used in some subject areas i.e mathematics, language arts. There is a small computer lab of 8 computers and the Ministry of Information's mobile IT bus which visits, but these two sources are limited to teacher use and the students in Grades 5 & 6 respectively. With reference to the mobile IT bus, the teacher aboard the bus exposes students to basic computer literacy and imparts and exposes them to the necessary skills required for use in secondary school. However, there is a limit to the use in classrooms as there is no Internet access. Teachers carefully select appropriate information and save them for future use in the classroom. At times, students are given the opportunity under the guidance of their teachers to use the computer lab for research, but as one can imagine only a few students at any time can use the lab.
Administratively, it is used in the generating of reports and letters and to communicate with the Ministry of Education and other internal and external agencies. Since the Government's initiative of Technology for Education 20/20, teachers are becoming more confident to use and take their laptops into the classroom.
